One shot is a hotel chain with design and boutique hotels in Spain (and several in Madrid). We stayed in the One Shot Fortuny hotel, which was a really really nice base for our Madrid trip. A beautiful old building, really nice atmosphere, great patio, super breakfast, and amazingly friendly staff, ranging from their cleaning team to the people at the reception and the different managers.
Also, see my post on things to do/see in Madrid during your city trip as well as other hotel reviews.

The One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid
Before srprs.me, a surprise destination organization, sent us here, I had never heard about One shot, the hotel chain with design and boutique hotels in Spain (and several in Madrid). We stayed in the One Shot Fortuny hotel, a beautiful and beautifully renovated old building with 74 rooms.
A building with amazingly elegant spaces, with their hardwood floors and Art Deco flourishes, livened up with curvaceous modern furniture, adventurous contemporary artworks, and accents in eye-popping Klein blue. All hinting to photography (hence the name one shot), although -in all honesty- I only noticed this link after reading about it on the hotel website.
Location of One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid 7/10
The One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid is situated in the embassy area of Madrid, Almagro, an upscale neighborhood that’s home to embassies, art galleries, expensive homes, and high-end shops and restaurants. There are some nice places close by (also see my overview of Madrid tips).
And although the hotel location is good, other properties are closer to the city center and/or have better connectivity with the city. This shouldn’t be a reason to not visit the hotel though – a 20 minute walk will bring you to the city center.
Rooms at One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid 8.5/10
Single rooms start out at a cozy 15 square meters and come with comfy beds, work desks, and rainfall showers. The style -hardwood floors and Art Deco flourishes, livened up with curvaceous modern furniture, adventurous contemporary artworks- looks a bit like you would expect from Indigo and Kimpton properties (which are pretty much my favorite IHG properties – see my review of the Indigo Antwerp and Kimpton DeWitt Amsterdam). It gives a rich, yet warm and stylish feel to each and every one of the properties and the beautifully detailed common areas.
Ah, if you have plenty of euros to spend, you might want to consider moving up into Executive and Premium rooms, on your way up to the One Shot Suite, you’ll add plenty of interior space, and, in the suite, a bathtub and a private terrace.
Service at One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid 9/10
I was impressed by the amazingly friendly staff, ranging from their cleaning team to the people at the reception and the different managers. We had a small issue with the door of our room not closing correctly, and we instantly had a super friendly staff member fixing the issue.
The person responsible for the breakfast was a natural host. Super friendly, capable to switch gears between couples, friends, business people and obsessive nerds working early in the morning (me – see next point). He was also friendly enough to recommend us some amazing places in Madrid, including Fismuler.
Getting stuff done at the One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid 8,5/10
Just before going to Madrid, I had some of the busiest weeks in my career. I got used to getting up at 04h00 and crushing insane amounts of work during the day. So when we arrived in Madrid on a Thursday evening, I was pretty much in the same flow. So I was wide awake on Friday morning at 05h00 and decided to get some work done. Unfortunately, the breakfast area (more on that later) wasn’t open yet, so I had to settle for the (beautiful) inside courtyard instead – this is a bit of a bummer for early morning risers, but doable.
After the breakfast area opened, one of the staff was kind enough to come to get me from the courtyard. And the breakfast area is just a great place. Stylishly decorated, serene, with great coffee, great food, the good hotel wifi and plenty of amazing food. Finally getting stuff done, done right.
Breakfast at One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid 9,5/10
The breakfast we had at One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid is probably the best I had this year in any hotel. I love a-la-carte breakfasts and this hotel just tweaked it to perfection. A wide range of a-la-carte options, including an amazing tasty and tasty looking avocado toast and an acai bowl.
Our stay at One Shot Fortuny hotel Madrid 9/10
Unexpectedly (well, I just did not know what to expect), the hotel was one of my hotel highlights of this year, including stays I had at the QO in Amsterdam, the Kimpton DeWitt in Amsterdam, the Intercontinental Aqaba, 1898 The Post in Gent and the Indigo in Antwerp. Amazing service, really decent room and one of the best breakfasts I had. Definitely something I would return to next time in Madrid.
As the hotel was included in a package booked with srprs.me, a surprise travel organization, I don’t know the exact amount of money we paid for the hotel.
